About
This site started from a small irritation. Luggage listings are full of numbers, and almost all of those numbers answer one question: how much does it hold. That question is settled on a bedroom floor, in comfort, with plenty of time. It is the easiest test the bag will ever face and it is the only one the listing is really talking about.
So the site is organized around the trip instead of the product. A bag is examined six times between your bedroom and your hotel room. Each examiner asks something different, only the first one has read the marketing, and the fourth and fifth are indifferent to all of it.
Everything here is written from the wording of the listing. We have not handled these bags, weighed them, measured them or flown anywhere with them, and there is no sentence anywhere on this site that suggests otherwise. Where a listing states a figure, we repeat it and say who said it. Where a listing states nothing, the page says nothing, and the gap is left where you can see it.
That last decision does more work than it sounds like it should. It would be easy to look at a photograph of a case and write a plausible weight, and within a week that plausible weight would be quoted back at us as though somebody had put the thing on a scale. Empty space on a page is less useful than a number and much more honest than a wrong one.
Things this site will not do
- We do not print size or weight limits for any airline, in any unit. They differ by carrier, by fare and by aircraft, and they change. Yours publishes its own and that is the one that counts.
- We do not treat airline approved, airplane approved or TSA approved as certifications, because none of them is one. The last of those refers to a lock standard and nothing else.
- We do not describe a lock built for a service key as protection against theft, and we publish nothing about opening or bypassing any lock.
- We do not restate rules about what may be carried. Those are published by the FAA and by your carrier, and a second-hand version of them on a site like this would only be out of date.
- We make no medical claims and no claims about what any weight is comfortable for anyone to carry.
- We do not price anything, rate anything out of five, or rank by commission.
How the pages are built
Every count on this site is calculated at build time from the same data the pages are drawn from. There is no sentence anywhere that says 47 listings while a list beside it shows a different number, because the sentence and the list read from the same place. If a listing were corrected tomorrow, every figure that mentions it would move with it.
Internal links take their text from the heading of the page they point at, so a link can never promise something the destination does not say. The build fails if a link points anywhere that does not exist.
